IDO FORUMS DAY 2- PRESS RELEASE 40/2021
The International Dance Organization Forums have been held for the first time virtually and online. The IDO Forums took place over two days on the 25th and 26th February 2021. Over 60 representatives from 45 countries, all continents took part.
The second day of Forums saw three topics: Vision 2025, IDO 40 years and the Couple Dance forum
IDO President (Ag) Prof. Dr. Velibor Srdic introduced the concept a new structure for IDO, Vision 2025. As part of his presentation, the questions being raised included: How do you see IDO with its structure, it’s competitions and the work of IDO in the future. The vision means a revision to the IDO internal structure with a quote from Emmitt Smith set as its reference: ‘Where visions gets dreams started’. Vision 2025 was welcomed by all NMO’s, but the voting of Presidium members was something that required further discussion.
In his second topic, the IDO President (Ag), confirmed that 2021 see’s IDO celebrating its Ruby Anniversary. September 2021 marks IDO’s 40th birthday and work had already commenced on specially designed logos, trailers and a new history brochure. All IDO NMO’s were invited to send in their questionnaires and memorabilia and to take part in a video that would then be used to promote the IDO National Member. Professor Srdic confirmed that a 40th birthday Awards Committee had been created to recognise all those who have made a significant contribution to IDO throughout the decades. The 40th birthday celebrations would be launched on the 18th September 2021 with a live broadcast.
IDO Vice-President and Couple Dance Director Dr Klaus Hollbacher discussed the future and feelings of IDO Couple Dance. Many NMO’s would like to see the name of this department changed so it unifies all disciplines. Dr Hollbacher referred to the feedback received on the Couple Dance questionnaire which discussed Disco Fox, West Coast Swing, Argentine Tango, Salsa and Bachata. As a result, some initiatives and improvements where deliberated. The Department will work closely with Education and Communications to have online masterclasses in order to get more people involved.
IDO will be looking at having IDO Forums twice a year, given the positive feedback received from IDO NMO’s and the positive outcome of these online Forums.
