- PRESS RELEASE 110/2021

The International Dance Organization Communications Department looks at the work produced by the IDO Presidium. Today we focus on IDO Vice President and Sports and Education Director Fiona Johnson.

2020 with new conditions, cancellation of traditional events, projects, etc, due to Covid-19. Our IDO Sports Director, Fiona Johnson, ensured that IDO adapted itself to a more virtual and online offering. Free online Masterclasses were presented to our members and in Autumn we had the first Eurovision style IDO Gala World event that was broadcasted live all around the World.

In October 2020, the Sports Department began the RE-START projects looking ahead to 2021. In February 2021 the first of many free educational online masterclasses was launched. In March 2021 a free Worldwide Webinar on the theme "Challenges for the Management of Sports Organizations During Covid-19 Pandemic". It was beautiful to see 3 World Dance Organizations talking and sharing their experience together with other sport lecturers. A historic moment indeed.

The major project led by Fiona Johnson with the support of the IDO President, was the first ever Continent vs Continent online Championships. The project was based and developed on an idea by Bonnie Dyer. The most important thing is that with this project IDO offered its members a great re-start possibility at a national level, giving its members and IDO dancers a reason to stay active and to still hold the competitive aim under new conditions. IDO has supported the dancers with scholarships, international judges with judging honorariums and the best 3 performances in adult age division from all continents and in all 3 departments will continue to the IDO online Gala World event that will be held on the 18th December 2021. This project has really made our IDO family stronger.

During summer the first face to face competition was held in Follonica, Italy and with the constant support for the IDO Organizers-the IDO official events published on the IDO Website should run. Following the re-start mentality, the IDO Sports Director with the approval of the Presidium has made special agreements to help with all IDO Organizers so there are no competitions fees, additional EpNs, no cancellation fines, etc…Organizers are an important part of our family, so we need to help each other during these times.

Together with Patrik Perosa 4 new Erasmus+ projects have been submitted and IDO is very active in the Interact project. The TAFISA World Games online platform has given IDO a great opportunity to be visible and a lot of new PR material was prepared and seen every day of the project. The IDO Sports Department will continue to work hard all summer, as preparations are well under way for live competitions and the IDO Gala for 2021.

Thank you Fiona for all the work you do for IDO!
