IDO Senior Vice -President and Adjudication Director Prof. Dr Velibor Srdic
IDO Senior Vice -President and Adjudication Director Prof. Dr Velibor Srdicsaid:
‘We are very proud with the work we have produced throughout 2020! 2020 was proceeding excellently with the annual IDO Adjudication Committee any many positive proposals. Suddenly Covid-19 hit everyone universally and saw IDO as an Organization having to reinvent its offering for all its members.’
Statistics speak for themselves, with eight virtual seminars for adjudicators, adjudicators, chairpersons and supervisors and almost 200 attendees from 36 countries; 3 days online written exams for the adjudicators was done for the first time via the IDO Online Dance Academy platform as well as 5 days of oral supplementary exams. The countries taking part included: Austria Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany ,Greece, Hong Kong, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Mexico, Moldova, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, South Africa, Sweden, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom and the United States of America.
The IDO Adjudication Department confirmed that all these online seminars and exams was something new for everyone, officials and national members alike. Here are some of the online adjudication anecdotes for 2020:
• Candidates during the exams are sometimes anxious, having cold fingers and usually the Adjudication Director is receiving at least one last minute call or email like: ‘Good morning. I have received the invitation for the exam that will be today at 10 am. Please let me know, what time the exam will be?’
• It is always funny when somebody is not muted and then we can hear all news in native language from all over the world!
• One candidate was logging in and out for the written portion of the exam 7 times in one hour. As the system was designed in the way that every time you log out you must start again from the 1st question, the candidate was desperate and has sent me 5 emails in 20 minutes and our IT administrator was thinking that we were having serious problems with the system.
• Funny thing, maybe not for Fiona, happened in January when the IDO Adjudication Director has booked the flight ticket with the wrong date and had to send the Sport Director home, one day earlier. No hard feelings from Fiona.
Professor Srdic added:
‘In the beginning we were anxious how everything would work, but in the end, we have all got used to such a professional platform and this has brought us to new ideas for future projects! I am very proud of our superb job and look forward to 2021!’
